What is Beta?
A brief history of Beta Theta Pi and the Delta Gamma
Chapter

Beta Theta Pi History
Beta Theta Pi is a social collegiate fraternity that was founded on August 8, 1839 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Beta was the first fraternity founded west of the Allegheny Mountains and one of the first to publish their constitution.Today Beta is recognized as one of the most successful social collegiate fraternities with over 120 active chapters and colonies in the United States and Canada, and hundreds of thousands of active and alumni members. Lasting over 150 years, Beta has been spitting out hundreds of successful members who have been given the opportunity to take part in our many leadership development courses. While brotherhood serves as the cornerstone of Beta Theta Pi, this lasting bond of friendship is cultivated by being a part of a group of individuals who share the same goals and values, constantly supporting each other in the pursuit of social, moral, and cultural excellence.  Founder John Reilly Knox described us as, "What a few men who are united in common purpose and effort are determined to do, can be done. More than that, such associations teach us just how far human friendships can carry us."
Delta Gamma Chapter History
On November 15, 1959 at the 120th General Convention of Beta Theta Pi a few good men from Wichita State University's local fraternity of Alpha Gamma Gamma sat in attendance with past alumni and regional Beta alumni. On that day, the General Fraternity would vote to allow Wichita State University, then known as the University of Wichita, into their national fraternity standings. With the help of nearby universities Alpha Gamma Gamma would then be known as the Delta Gamma Chapter of Beta Theta Pi. Today we are still running strong just like the decades before us. Our brotherhood aids the individual, builds the Fraternity, and strengthens Wichita State University through lifelong devotion to intellectual excellence, high standards of moral conduct and responsible citizenship.Since our debut in 1959, the Delta Gamma Chapter of Beta Theta Pi has produced over 1150 bright men who have helped shape our country today. Making the decision to join Beta Theta Pi will change your life and provide a lifetime of loyal friends and career opportunities.

"The first mark of a Beta will be his Beta Spirit."
Willis O. Robb, Ohio Wesleyan 1879
